Hello everyone,
I have been in the robotics for some time now and it is amazing to see how fast this field is changing. Between AI, machine learning and new hardware developments, this is such a fast paced area that it is hard to catch up. I wanted to initiate a conversation here in which we share ideas and experiences about some recent developments and trends in robotics.
1. AI-Powered Robotics:
Probably the most exciting development has to do with the integration of AI and machine learning into robotics. In a nutshell, robots are becoming much more intelligent, autonomous, and capable of learning from their environment. Enormous implications are expected to come out of this for industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and even home automation. I'd love to hear from you about any projects or experiments you might have done, leveraging AI in robotics.
2. Collaborative Robots (Cobots):
Another exciting domain is the use of robotics in healthcare-from surgical robots to robotic prosthetics. The potential to improve outcomes for patients, from this vantage point, can be huge. Are there any healthcare professionals or engineers among you who work on or with medical robots? What challenges and opportunities do you see in this domain?
4. Open-Source Robotics:
Entry into robotics is getting increasingly easier, with open-source platforms and tools making it accessible to hobbyist and professional alike. Projects like ROS- Robot Operating System-create a symbiotic community where people share their work and get ideas from others. I'd be keen to hear about any open-source projects you're working on, or any such tools you would recommend.
5. Autonomous Vehicles:
While self-driving cars get all the glory, autonomous vehicles go much further into the horizon: Drones, autonomous delivery robots, and even underwater vehicles are pushing the boundaries. Is there anyone in the room working on autonomous systems? What is the greatest hurdle you are facing, and what is your outlook for the future regarding autonomous vehicles?
6. 3D Printing in Robotics:
3D printing has finally begun to revolutionize prototyping in robotics and even manufacturing of the final product. It's incredible how complex parts of robots can be designed and printed in hours. Have you used 3D printing in your robotics projects? How did that change your approach to design and prototyping?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Let's make this a vibrant discussion where we can all learn from each other and maybe even collaborate on future projects!
