Guys, Just wanted to get your opinion on this. I have a project that is already in running condition. I would be doing another revision of it pretty soon, so wanted to get an opinion on this topic.

How safe is the silicon tube when it comes to alcohol. My current design makes contact with it always on the storage side (dipped inside the reservoir bottle - glass material). I do not see any problems so far, but the geek in me tells me otherwise. I have this constant urge to change it to stainless steel/glass (only where it would make contact 24x7).

Has anyone done something like this..? What is your opinion on this topic. What other material you would consider for something like this.

Thanks,

In terms of viscosity alcohol is similar to that of water, and when we consider the food grade part of this- silicon is food grade material as far as I know. So, it should be fine.

Hello,

The Silicone tube can be used for Alcohol liquid, but its lifetime is only around 200 hours.
Can I know the liquid media content? How much alcohol?
What liquid ingredients are used? Different liquid ingredients have different chemical compatibility.
By the way, also confirm the size of tubing(ID=Inner Diameter, OD=Outer Diameter, Thickness) that you needed if you want suggestion for the tube.

Hi,

I understand the lifetime part from my research work.. As far as the content goes, it's regular bottled liquor that you get from shops. I currently use ID: 4mm OD: 7.2mm tube. It works fine, so far. May be like Shubham_S said, it would probably be fine. I also have logic in my code to reverse the direction to keep the tubes clean once the intended flow is complete.

About my original question,if you were to do this type of project, what other materials you would consider? I had glass in my mind but I didn't find it easy to work with/procure materials.

thanks,
