Hello,

I wanted to know more about LiSOCl2 Battery.
1. What are its applications?
2. Is that rechargeable?
3. What is the difference between Li-ion and Li SOCl2?

I have purchased a battery from robu.in. Below is the link for the product. My motor is supposed to run on 3.6V at 0.6A, but when I connect the battery, the motor does not run. However, when I measure the voltage of the battery with a multimeter, it shows 3.6V. My motor is running with other supply with 3.6V and taking 0.3A current. I'm not sure what the issue is.

The LiSOCl2 battery you're using supplies a steady 3.6V but with a low discharge current of around 2mA, which is insufficient for your motor's 0.3A (300mA) requirement. Consequently, the motor does not rotate when connected to this battery. Consider using a different power source, such as a 1S Li-ion battery, capable of delivering at least 0.3A at 3.6V to properly operate your motor. To find a suitable battery for your motor, you can explore options: https://robu.in/product-tag/18650-battery/

Applications of LiSOCl2 Batteries:

Low-Power Electronics: LiSOCl2 batteries are commonly used in applications that require long-term reliability and low self-discharge rates. This includes:
Remote Sensors: Such as in industrial monitoring systems or environmental monitoring devices.
Medical Devices: Such as pacemakers or other implantable medical devices.
Utility Meters: For long-term monitoring of electricity, water, or gas consumption.

What is the difference between Li-ion and Li SOCl2?

Li-ion Batteries: These are rechargeable batteries that use lithium ions moving between the anode and cathode during charge and discharge cycles. They are known for their high energy density, which makes them suitable for portable electronic devices.
LiSOCl2 Batteries: These are primary (non-rechargeable) batteries that use lithium anode and thionyl chloride as the cathode. They have a very low self-discharge rate, making them suitable for long-term applications where battery replacement is difficult or impractical.
