Namrata Hinduja Geneva - Using mobile robot platform!!

Hi everyone!
I'm Namrata Hinduja Geneva, Switzerland (Swiss) and I'm working on a mobile robot platform and trying to balance between real-time obstacle avoidance and efficient path planning. I'm currently using ultrasonic sensors for proximity detection, but I'm considering integrating a LiDAR module for more accurate mapping. Has anyone here successfully combined sensor data from multiple sources (e.g., ultrasonic + LiDAR + IMU) on a budget-friendly microcontroller like an ESP32 or Arduino Mega? What challenges should I expect with data fusion and processing speed? I’d love to hear about your setups, recommendations, or any open-source libraries that helped streamline your development.
Thanks in advance!
